The Ultimate Juggling Act: A Soccer and Volleyball Mama’s Funny Life

The Ultimate Juggling Act: A Soccer and Volleyball Mama’s Funny Life

Being a sports mom is no joke — especially when you’re a proud soccer and volleyball mama, because apparently, juggling just one sport wasn’t enough! Between cheering from the sidelines, managing team supplies, and dodging flying volleyballs and soccer balls, I’ve become a pro at multitasking, and a master of chaos.

 The Soccer Mama Chronicles

Every Saturday, I’m on the sidelines, waving my pom-poms (well, maybe just clapping enthusiastically) and trying to keep up with the action for my two littles and their fancy feet on the field, when I say little I mean preteens. My husband and I are dealing with two teams of teens and preteens, sassy central over here! Everyone has an opinion about everything everyday! As a member of the Soccer Board of Directors, I’ve seen it all — I’ve negotiated schedule conflicts, found missing jerseys and crazy grandparents, and learned that “referee” is just a fancy word for “someone who might get yelled at.” Don’t forget the occasional meltdown…from the parents! Ohhhh, and the snack bar — my second home — where I’ve become an expert at balancing hot coffee, Gatorades, and a mountain of granola bars that mysteriously disappear faster than you can say “halftime.” Who knew team snacks mysteriously disappear before halftime.

The Volleyball Mom Adventures

Just when I thought I’d get a breather, volleyball season crashes in like a flying ball to the face. With only one day off before the driving back and forth begins a new week of going from school to volleyball to soccer to home and homework before crashing into bed, I seriously don’t know how any of us are making it. Now I’m chasing after flying balls, cheering on my kiddo, and pretending I know the rules of rotation in volleyball (spoiler: I don’t) and secretly still learning all the girls’ names. I absolutely love the sport but who knew there would be 2-3 games EVERY WEEK!!!! I wish I chose better soccer uniforms, the color of the junior high, so my poor daughter didn’t have to change her clothes in the car from sport to sport. From volleyball shoes to cleats and leftover clothes my car is beginning to smell like a locker room! Thank goodness for Sunny Day carwash coming to my rescue!

 The Juggling Never Ends

Honestly, I should get a medal — or at least a trophy for “Most Likely to Drop Everything at Once.” Between managing team rosters, coordinating snacks, shuttling kids around, and trying to remember if I already paid for that last snack, I’ve become a professional plate-spinner. BOD meetings once a month, coordinating a snack bar each weekend, no big deal, life has never been busier. The best part? I wouldn’t trade it for anything — even if I occasionally feel like I need a nap that lasts a week. Being able to watch my kids grow athletically, cheering in the stands at every day is not taken for granted by myself or my husband who is coaching both their soccer teams. We are so lucky to be able to share the wins and losses with our babies. Next stop…AllStars. Oy Vey!

 Moral of the story?

Being a sports mom means embracing the chaos, laughing at the madness, and celebrating every victory — whether it’s a goal scored or a snack well-distributed. Because at the end of the day, it’s all about the love of the game… and the snacks. Better have good snacks or these kids will each you alive!

Let’s face it: it takes a village. Or, as I like to say, it takes a vineyard.
